Women, AI and the potential of the Bulgarian game industry
The Playing Man study conducted by experts from Interculture Consult, is part of the project "The Gamer: Creator and Consumer" and aims to analyze the video game industry in Bulgaria as a significant creative industry with high economic potential. Through a national survey of game industry professionals, ordinary users, designers and creatives from the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) sector, the research offers new insights into the role of women, the use of artificial intelligence and opportunities for growth in the Bulgarian gaming ecosystem. The official data and analysis was published at the end of the month of September 2024, as the second part was specifically dedicated to gender, artificial intelligence and cross-sectoral innovation.
Main highlights of the study
The survey included over 1,300 respondents, including game industry professionals, casual gamers, and CCI creatives who are working on or interested in integrating gamification into their projects. Through the three conducted anonymous online surveys, three focus groups and a special group dedicated to women in the gaming sector, the research reveals:
- Women in the gaming industry: Despite the challenges women face, they contribute significantly to the growth and diversity of the Bulgarian gaming sector. Group discussions reveal their support needs and career opportunities in an environment that has historically been male-dominated.
- The role of artificial intelligence: The research highlights how AI is being used to create more engaging and personalized gaming experiences, while providing greater opportunities to engage diverse stakeholder groups, including women and people outside of traditional gaming contexts.
- The economic potential of the game industry: The video game sector has been identified as a significant driver of innovation and cultural exports for Bulgaria. It offers unique opportunities for young professionals and creative industries seeking sustainable development and international exchange.
The "Player: creator and user" initiative aims to promote innovation in the Bulgarian creative ecosystem, drawing attention to the importance of equality and support for innovators and creators in the industry. Focusing on women, artificial intelligence and the potential of gamification, the study "The Gamer" gives voice to the creators and users who are shaping the future of gaming in Bulgaria and contributing to the economic viability of this sector. .
The first data and analyzes from the survey were presented to a wide audience on a project basis SPECTRA while online Deep Dive the sessions organized by BIC Innobridge. They were attended by representatives of various interested parties, who considered the significance of these results for the development of the sector. Such studies are extremely important because they give us a new look at the processes that shape the attitudes, trends and development of the creative industries in Bulgaria.
